Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

Surgical facelift is a procedure involving the removal of excess skin, tightening of tissues and muscles, and redraping of the skin on the face and/or neck to correct facial sagging normally found on the lower and middle areas of the face. It is usually performed on individuals aged 40 and above, to help them regain a firmer and more youthful look on their face and neck.

Besides facial sagging, facelift also treats deep lines and creases found on different areas of the face, including the forehead, and the areas surrounding the nose and mouth. These are commonly known as frown lines, laugh lines, marionette lines, and the like. Meanwhile, double chins forming through the accumulation of excess fat coupled with loosening of the skin can also be removed with this treatment.

All these physical effects of aging on the face, aggravated by one’s lifestyle and other environmental factors, can generally be corrected with a single facelift session, although further visits may be required depending on the severity of the problem.

One important thing to remember about a facelift is that it is performed not to change one’s face but merely to rejuvenate and revitalize the same. As such, the physician performing the same must have the relevant skill and training to achieve optimal yet natural-looking results, taking into consideration the unique facial characteristics of each patient.

When done correctly, a facelift can subtract a good number of years from one’s physical appearance, and can prove to be a huge morale booster.
