Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift, formally called mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to correct breast ptosis, which is the medical term for drooping or sagging breasts among females.

The said condition commonly occurs after a woman has undergone pregnancy, or has been through drastic weight changes, both of which result to overstretching of the skin around the breasts. As a result, the breasts lose their original shape and sag down, requiring a surgical lift to bring back their proper elevation and form.

While it is a natural occurrence among females who have gone through the abovementioned life stages, sagginess of the breasts can prove to be a great factor in dampening one's confidence and self-image. Taking this into consideration, it is not surprising how breast lift has become a popular procedure among the female population.

The procedure involves the removal of the overstretched excess skin, as well as the raising of the nipples. This step requires consideration of the viability of the tissues around the nipple area, to ensure that the breasts do not suffer from loss of functional sensitivity as a result of the surgery.

A breast lift may also be complemented by breast augmentation techniques, namely, the use of breast implants, to achieve optimal results and extend their lifetime.
